Saddle Fitting

Buying a saddle is a big decision but also an exciting one. Hopefully the saddle will last for many years. When you buy a saddle from Milners you can be confident that we will fit it, and be happy to check it regularly and make any alterations to keep it fitting correctly.

We have 2 qualified Saddle Fitters who are registered with the Society of Master Saddlers and have over 20 years experience between them. We prefer to speak to you on the phone in the initial stages of booking a fitting - that way we can make sure we have relevant details about you, your horse and your usage requirements. At the fitting itself, we template your horse and fill out a fitting sheet with records of you and your horse, one copy of which you can keep.

We observe your horse both stationary and being ridden. Ideally we like to see your horse being ridden in walk, trot and canter on both reins on a flat surface and possibly over a jump if you are buying a jump saddle, however we understand that this is not always possible.

We offer our saddle fitting service here at John O'Gaunt where we have a full size ménage, a shop full of saddles, an onsite workshop and a large car park. Alternatively we can come to you at your yard/home.

    Shetland Pad

Our Famous Shetland Pony Pad was developed 25 years ago with the help of Pat Rennick. Over the years the pad has become a "must have" for Shetland owners and small pony owners alike.

The Pad is made from English Felt covered in soft leather and comes with built in knee rolls, a fixed stirrup bar arch and proper stirrup bars, giving the young jockey more security.

The pad is available in two sizes and can also be suede covered instead of the normal smooth hide covering. Crupper dee and front handle are also available.

Basic cost of the pad is £275.00 delivered to your door!

Please email enquiries@smilnerandson.com or call us on 01664 454839 for further details.
