About Milners
S. Milner & Son have been trading since 1870 and although things have changed greatly since then saddles and leatherwork remain at the core of what we do.
Situated at John O Gaunt, near Melton Mowbray you will find our beautiful saddle showroom and workshop. We keep an extensive range of new saddles from a variety of leading brands plus a range of quality leatherwork. Visits to our showroom to have a look at saddles are by appointment but please do call us on 01664 454839 if you would like to visit.
Saddles and saddle fitting is the core of our business. We pride ourselves on providing an unbiased, honest and professional service. Excellent customer service is what we truly believe in.
Both our saddle fitters, Andy and Jenni, are Society Of Master Saddlers qualified saddle fitters, the most respected saddle fitting qualification. In addition Andy is a Master Saddle Fitter, an assessor and lecturer on the SMS saddle fitting courses and has been a member of the executive committee of the Society. Jenni is a SMS qualified saddle fitter, has worked at Milners for over 15 years, trained with Andy and Kirsty to become a saddle fitter and is working towards becoming a Master Saddle Fitter. Jenni previously worked as a BHS qualified instructor and has endless patience as well as a great understanding of horses. Our aim is to give you a first class saddle fitting service, whether you are buying a new saddle or having an existing saddle refitted, whether you’re an Olympic rider or a happy hacker – our motto is every customer deserves the same attention to detail.
We have an extensive loyal customer base and many of our recommendations come from word of mouth or through other professionals such as trainers/ vets / physios or other equine professionals.
Our workshop is managed by Dave Kuhn who is an integral member of the Milners family business. Dave’s father also worked at Milners for many years and taught Dave & Andy a lot of what they know. Dave is a master at both repairing and making tack.
Dave has been working at Milners for over 50 years, he is one of the finest craftsmen in the trade and is a registered Master Saddler. Over the years Dave has designed and made many extraordinary items including leather door handles for a shop in London and in 2012 designing and making the bridle that Sophie Wells used at the Paralympics.
Our bridlework is renowned for its quality and longevity, we only use finest English leather. Whether you want a long lasting hard working hunting bridle, a made to measure special eventing noseband or a beautiful handmade individually designed bridle, Dave is the man for the job.
